Walker by Tsai Ming-Liang is one of the four films commissioned by the Honk Kong international film festival for the Beautiful anthology. In this short movie we follow a monk dressed in a red robe carrying a sandwich and a plastic bag in his hands throughout his journey in a busy and crowded city. As the monk barely moves its feet at an incredible slowness, we realize that his sādhanā (spiritual practice) is also a subtle critique to the fast-forward contemporary civilization and to our too often failure to see the world’s beauty.
